Mansion “Spitaki” (means small house in Greek) was built in 1900 based in old traditional architectology. It has four fully restored bedrooms in traditional Cretan style. The two-level house situated in a quiet location in village Ano Kalessa, a picturesque little village on a green hill just 4km away from Ammoudara beaches and very close to Heraklion city.
The house is made out of stone and the 80cm thick walls act as a natural air-condition by keeping the house cool in summer. Additionally, there is an original stone built fire-place which provides warm moments in the winter. On ground floor there is also a dining area with a large wooden monastery table, a kitchen with all the facilities, the fireplace and a WC/shower also. A staircase leads to the upper floor where a master bedroom is located with en-suite WC/shower. This bedroom also has access to the veranda. But the point that makes “Spitaki” precious and unique are the three “ontas” bedrooms. “Ontas” is an old fashioned architecture place that used to be a bedroom and is in some way separated from the rest place. This traditional house was builded and used from the grandfather of the family as a stable before being restored into a fully functional house and so lots of its usability details have remained the same.
The veranda has a beautiful view around the hills that give someone the opportunity to appreciate the fresh Cretan air. Finally, equipment for outdoors barbeque is provided to the guests. In the balcony there is also a traditional sofa with a marble table to enjoy the moments in Crete.
In Ano Kalessa village you will find local shops such as bakery, butchery, mini market, coffee house and tavern. Also guests can visit a riding club about a kilometer away from the house which organizes rides in the countryside. Furthermore only 4km away it is possible that guests visit Ammoudara’s sandy beaches. In Ammoudara area there are various bars and restaurants and lots of nice on beach bars to enjoy a drink or cocktail while on beach. Heraklion city center is located about 16km from the house and you can be there within 20 minutes driving.
